Hello!
Did you know that in the U.S. there are 4 main banks that offer travel reward credit cards? Each bank has their own rules about who they will approve for a credit card and why. A good example of this is the big blue bank and their 5/24 rule. This rule states that you can only open 5 credit cards (from any bank) within a 24 month period of time in order to get approved for one of their cards. But the GREAT news is that this rule doesn’t apply to MOST business cards. And there are a lot of amazing travel reward business cards out there! In fact, the best business credit cards will offer you MANY points without locking you out of any other points/miles.
So basically – if you own a business – you’re going to be able to earn LOADS of points and miles without locking yourself out of the blue bank. Yay!
But don’t get discouraged if you don’t own a corporation… odds are you can still qualify for a business card!
Starting A Side Hustle Can Qualify You For A Business Card

Starting a side hustle means you can qualify for a business card as a sole proprietor. You will simply apply for the card using your social security number OR you can get an EIN and use that number.
Some Examples Of Side Hustles Are:
- Selling used baby clothes and gear online
- Teaching Yoga or Pilates
- Photography
- Babysitting
- Tutoring
- Refinishing Furniture and Selling It
- Being A Social Media Influencer
- Affiliate Marketing
- Renting Out Your Personal Car, etc.
Basically anything that can earn you a small commission can qualify as a side hustle… just make sure you’re recording what you’re making on the side so you can declare it during tax time.
Business cards have been a HUGE part of my personal points and miles strategy and will continue to be moving forward.
Here Are Some Of My Favorite Business Cards:
- The Chase Ink cards. All of them are phenomenal for different reasons. Two of these are marketed as cash back cards, but you CAN redeem them for points! All of these points can be combined into the Ink Preferred card, where your points can then be transferred out to travel partners. This is how you double or even triple the value of your points and this is how I booked most of our hotels for nearly free in Australia and New Zealand (See this post for more info on that trip).
- The Amex Gold is another favorite of mine. I also hold the Platinum personal card and love the luxury options it provides, but it’s a high annual fee. So if you aren’t going to use all of the benefits, it’s a better idea to go with the Gold.
- The Capital One Venture X Business Card. It’s got a high minimum spend, but amazing luxury perks! If you’re a business with higher spend needs, this is an excellent card to have in your wallet.
There are many more to choose from, but so far I’ve been really happy with these cards!
Remember… before you open ANY cards it’s a good idea to know all of the different rules for each bank and come up with a strategy! If you don’t, you could lock yourself out of hundreds of thousands of points/miles, and as well all know… the best way to travel in luxury for a fraction of the cost is by using points and miles!
Happy Earning~
